Chocolate-Covered Strawberries for the Maltby Cake
12 large fresh strawberries with green hulls intact
1 10-ounce package dark-chocolate chips
2 Tbsp. shortening
Wash the strawberries and chill, then dry thoroughly with paper towels. Put a cookie sheet in the freezer to chill. Place chocolate chips and shortening in microwaveable container and melt carefully, 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each 30 seconds. Hold each strawberry by the hull, dip chocolate and place on the cookie sheet. Use to decorate the Maltby Cake. If you like, drizzle remaining chocolate over cake.
